The Bascom Brings the World of Art to the Highlands Cashiers Plateau
The Bascom’s covered bridge in Highlands, NC is a window to the wonderful world of art on the Highlands Cashiers plateau. Situated on 6 acres with a meandering stream and wildflowers abloom you will find 6 new buildings designed to share the art experience. The new visual arts center main building offers 27,500 sq. ft. of gallery space for wonderful traveling exhibits as well as its permanent collection. The “green” campus buildings were constructed for various types of art workshops, a pottery shed, a café, plus a wonderful expansive terrace which has become the gathering spot for community events. After two years in contruction the Bascom opened in 2009.

Community “Barn Dances” the last Saturday of each month.
“Teach the Children” Wonderful art classes are held for the school children.
Enjoy the permanent as well as local exhibits. Amidst our mountain’s backdrop you will find many well-known artists painting Mother Nature’s best landscapes.

Family Adventure Day – time for family fun that is free. Bring a picnic and a blanket. Scavenger hunts, nature hikes, birding events. Family fun for all ages.
July
Mountains in Bloom - 1000 plant lovers converge on the plateau to see their favorites in bloom or in art form. Garden tours, flower shows, photography and horticulture competition, and a Benefactor party.
September/October
The Autumn Festival and Celebration! Art, Craft, and Design last weekend
