There are four major airports to access the Western North Carolina mountains. Of course some are closer than others. But all are within easy driving distance. The airport you select may depend somewhat on the direction you may be flying as well as cost.

Easy access to the airport. Located off I85 between Greenville, SC and Spartanburg in Greer. About 1 hour 45 min.-2 hours. Depending on your mtn. location and very easy driving.
There is also a Greenville, NC so make sure if you are speaking to an agent, you designate SC.

Map Quest, Google, and your car GPS maps do not always give you the most direct route to various places on the mountain. If you are asking directions going from Atlanta to Sapphire, it takes you through Greenville and back through Rosman which is not the way to come
